The Postgraduate Program "CURRENT PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF PEDIATRIC DISEASES" of the Department of Medicine in University of Thessaly, has started in the academic year 2021-2022 and operates in accordance with the New Law 4485/17 of Postgraduate Studies.
Director of the postgraduate programme is Ioanna Grivea, Professor of Pediatrics and Neonatology, Department of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, University of Thessaly.
It aims to provide high-quality knowledge and clinical experience in General Pediatrics and Pediatric subspecialties with the acquisition of knowledge and understanding of Pediatric diseases.
General Pediatrics and Pediatric subspecialties as well, are a cornerstone of Public Health and with the advancement of science and early preventive interventions during infancy, childhood and adolescence, children's health has improved significantly.
THE PROGRAMME

on Postgraduate Studies (Government Gazette: under publication).
PURPOSE – OBJECTIVES
The Postgraduate Program "CURRENT PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF PEDIATRIC DISEASES" in the academic subject "Pediatrics" aims to expand knowledge on postgraduate level and to provide high quality
a) theoretical knowledge and clinical experience regarding the current prevention and treatment of pediatric diseases with a focus on prevention but also in diseases that require specialized knowledge and referral to pediatric subspecialties and
b) theoretical and research- based knowledge.
It is addressed to students graduated from Medicine and other Health Sciences, but also to paediatricians, general practitioners, health visitors, social workers, nurses who deal with children's health with the aim of a successful professional career in the private and public sector. After their thorough and evidence-based education, graduates will be ready for doctoral-level postgraduate studies.
The Postgraduate Studies Program promotes the cooperation of academics from both clinical and basic science fields in the student’s co-supervision during the program. It aims at a holistic training and acquiring an effective ability to follow and adapt to the rapid developments of a highly competitive field of science
The objectives of the PMS are the following:
1. Training and specialization of young scientists in the field of Pediatrics and Pediatric subspecialties.
2. Training new scientists with thorough and up-to-date literature data.
3. Provision of necessary supplies that will lead in the research and production of new knowledge.
4. Developing scientists with skills necessary for successful careers in the private, public and academic sectors.
5. Preparation for postgraduate studies at the doctoral level.
In conclusion, Postgraduate Studies Program aims to utilize the student potential of the above Science Schools and to promote the cooperation of academics of both clinical and basic science fields. It aims at the holistic training in scientific and social parameters of Pediatrics in order to promote the acquisition of skills that contribute to professional development and to enable students to follow and adapt to the rapid developments of a highly competitive field of Health Sciences.
DURATION
The postgraduate program "CURRENT Prevention and Treatment of Pediatric Diseases" is structured in four (4) academic semesters, which include courses, clinical training and preparation of a diploma thesis. The total number of credits (ECTS) required to obtain the Postgraduate Diploma (M.D.S.) is one hundred and twenty (120) ECTS.
The successful completion of the program includes the attendance and successful examination of all postgraduate courses, the completion of a clinical training and the preparation of a diploma thesis as follows: a) attendance and successful examination of all postgraduate courses which are credited with a total of seventy-five (75) ECTS b) participation in a clinical training at the Pediatric Clinic of the University of Thessaly or in a Primary Health Care Clinic that treats pediatric patients, which is credited with fifteen (15) ECTS and c) writing a postgraduate thesis during the 4th semester of studies which is credited with thirty (30) ECTS.
Diploma
The Postgraduate Program awards a Postgraduate Diploma (MSc in Current Prevention and Management of Pediatric Diseases) after full and successful completion of the studies based on the curriculum. The total number of credits (ECTS) required to obtain the Postgraduate Diploma (M.D.S.) is one hundred and twenty (120) ECTS.
The titles are awarded by the Department of Medicine of the University of Thessaly.
