OBLIGATIONS AND RIGHTS OF POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

1. Postgraduate students have all the rights and benefits provided for the students of the first cycle of studies except for the right to free textbooks. The Foundation is obliged to ensure that students with disabilities and/or special needs have access to the proposed texts and teaching (par. 3, no. 34, Law 4485/2017).

2. Postgraduate students are required to:

  • Successfully attend the postgraduate courses offered. A postgraduate student is considered to have attended only if he has completed 70% of the hours of lectures and practical exercises of the three semesters of study according to the current curriculum. Otherwise, they are obliged to repeat the course or the practical exercise.
  • Ensure that the necessary books and photocopies of scientific articles that cover the curriculum are acquired on time, and it is their responsibility to obtain them
  • Attend conferences, seminars and other scientific events with topics related to the subject of the PMS (they will be informed about this annually by the Director of the PMS)
  • In the case of assigning work to a course, it must be submitted within the prescribed deadlines.
  • Attend the prescribed exams

3. The internship will take place in the Pediatric Clinic of the University of Thessaly or in a Primary Health Care structure that deals with the field of Pediatrics. The module of the internship will concern the participation of the M.F. in the operation of the above structures. 28 hours of Internship must be completed in each of the first three semesters of studies and will be scheduled after consultation between the student, the S.E., and the cooperating agencies. After consultation, students who live outside of Larissa can organize their training near their residence.

4. The examination of each course can be done orally, in writing, by writing assignments, or in another way that will be determined by the Professor in charge. The exams are held twice a year, at the end of each semester, according to the academic calendar of the University of Thessaly. Repeat exams for the first and second semesters will be held in September and June, respectively. In exceptional cases, the SE can postpone or modify the examination time.

5. Cases of inability to attend the exams (regular and repeat semester) of any course due to a serious disability will have the possibility to be examined in the exams of the corresponding semester of the new study cycle or in the September repeat exam. The grade of the courses achieved by the MF is guaranteed.

6. If the postgraduate student fails twice in the examination of a course or courses so that, according to the Regulations of Postgraduate Studies, it is considered that they have not successfully completed the program, they are re-examined after compulsory attendance of the course or courses in the corresponding semester of the next cycle of studies.

7. The score of the MPs, which have been successfully evaluated, has a minimum score of 5.0 with an excellent score of 10 and is submitted to the Department's Postgraduate Studies Secretariat by the Responsible Professor.

8. Students who fail two or more courses in each semester are removed from the P.M.S. In any case, they are reviewed after the June exams

9. Each MF is obliged to prepare a Thesis. The subject of the Diploma Thesis will be chosen during the third semester of courses by the MF in collaboration with the Supervising Professor and submitted to the SE for approval. Once approved, the Supervising Professor will be responsible for monitoring the PhD project. Together with the other parts of the Three-Member Examining Committee, the supervising professor will approve the Diploma Thesis, which the candidate will present publicly.

10. MAs must pass (grade greater than or equal to 5) the thesis examination. If the student is not able to complete his thesis on time, then with a reasoned report he will request from the SE to extend the time for its preparation and the Assembly of the Department of Medicine will decide

.
11. The certification of graduates is done by the ritual of the University of Thessaly by the Dean's Office of the School of Health Sciences in the presence of representatives of the Rector's Authorities. The type of Postgraduate Diploma and the text of the certification of diploma holders is determined according to the decision of the Senate of the University of Thessaly.

12. The control of disciplinary offenses of postgraduate students is governed by the provisions of the university legislation applicable to undergraduate students.

13. The Assembly of the Department of Medicine, after the proposal of the SE, may decide to delete postgraduate students if they:

• do not pay the prescribed tuition fee.

14. At the end of each semester, an evaluation of each course and each teacher is carried out by the postgraduate students (para. 1., art. 44, Law 4485/2017). The postgraduate students anonymously evaluate, after the completion of the teaching of each course, the educational process, the teacher and the general functioning of the PMS, based on specific questionnaires. The relevant forms, two (2) in total, cover the following sections: the course in terms of content, written and/or oral assignments, the teacher(s), any auxiliary teaching staff, the existence of laboratory courses, etc. The Secretariat collects the forms and records them, in order to extract aggregated results. The results are transferred by the Director of the PMS to the SE and the teachers are informed accordingly. In addition, important elements of the evaluation are communicated in a relevant report to the Assembly of the Medical School (following a relevant request), under the responsibility of the Director of the PMS

15. In order to obtain the Postgraduate Diploma (MPD) it is required:

  • the successful examination in the courses
  • the concentration of 120 credits (ECTS)
  • the submission to the SE of the Course Evaluation Sheets (the evaluations are delivered to the PMS Secretariat and do not mention the name of the postgraduate student) at the end of each semester
  • the preparation and presentation of the Diplomatic Thesis
  • Postgraduate students can request the issuance of a diploma supplement.

16. Registration at the PMS implies a contribution of each student to the relevant operating costs, which amounts to 800 Euros per semester. The process of paying the fees for the PMS is done through the Special Research Account of EKPA. Every graduate student is required to pay tuition fees before the start of each semester and before registering for each semester.
