PURPOSE – OBJECTIVES

The Postgraduate Program "CURRENT PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF PEDIATRIC DISEASES" of the Department of Medicine at the University of Thessaly started in the academic year 2021-2022 and operates in accordance with the New Law Ν. 4957/2022 of Postgraduate Studies.

Ioanna Grivea, Professor of Pediatrics and Neonatology at the Department of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, University of Thessaly, is the director of the postgraduate programme.

It aims to provide high-quality knowledge and clinical experience in General Pediatrics and Pediatric subspecialties with the acquisition of knowledge and understanding of Pediatric diseases.

General Pediatrics and Pediatric subspecialties, as well, are a cornerstone of Public Health, and with the advancement of science and early preventive interventions during infancy, childhood and adolescence, children's health has improved significantly.

PURPOSE – OBJECTIVES

The Postgraduate Program "CURRENT PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF PEDIATRIC DISEASES" in the academic subject "Pediatrics" aims to expand knowledge at postgraduate level and to provide high-quality
a) theoretical knowledge and clinical experience regarding the current prevention and treatment of pediatric diseases with a focus on prevention but also on diseases that require specialized knowledge and referral to pediatric subspecialties and
b) theoretical and research-based knowledge.

It is addressed to students who graduated from Medicine and other Health Sciences, as well as paediatricians, general practitioners, health visitors, social workers, and nurses who deal with children's health and aim to have successful professional careers in the private and public sectors. After their thorough and evidence-based education, graduates will be ready for doctoral-level postgraduate studies.

The Postgraduate Studies Program promotes the cooperation of academics from both clinical and basic science fields in the student’s co-supervision during the program. It aims at holistic training and acquiring an effective ability to follow and adapt to the rapid developments of a highly competitive field of science

The objectives of the PMS are the following:

1. Training and specialization of young scientists in the field of Pediatrics and Pediatric subspecialties.
2. Training new scientists with thorough and up-to-date literature data.
3. Provision of necessary supplies that will lead to the research and production of new knowledge.
4. Developing scientists with skills necessary for successful careers in the private, public and academic sectors.
5. Preparation for postgraduate studies at the doctoral level.

In conclusion, Postgraduate Studies Program aims to utilize the student potential of the above Science Schools and to promote the cooperation of academics of both clinical and basic science fields. It aims at the holistic training in scientific and social parameters of Pediatrics in order to promote the acquisition of skills that contribute to professional development and to enable students to follow and adapt to the rapid developments of a highly competitive field of Health Sciences.
