Dr Kirvassilis works at the Paediatric Respiratory Unit of the 3rd Paediatric Department of AUTH since February 1993. His main aeras of Clinical and Research interests are Paediatric Asthma, Lung Function in children, Paediatric bronchoscopy and interventional bronchoscopy in children, Congenital disorders of the respiratory system in children, Technology depended children (invasive and non - invasive ventilation) and home care in children. He is currently one of the nine members of the workgroup of the Hellenic Ministry of Health for the Paediatric Home Care in Greece.
He has participated in International / European Collaborations:
International Network on Asthma Genetics (GAIN study). The ISAAC II (International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood). Protocols on Asthma Treatment in children (The START and FAS study).The
effectiveness of Influenza vaccine in children (D153-P515-CAIV-T: A randomized bouble-blind trial to assess the safety and relative efficacy of CAIV-T against inactivated influenza vaccine in children 6-59
months of age) and MK-CDSP-476Q protocol. MEDI-524(NUMAX TM): A pivotal phase 3 study of MEDI - 524 (NUMAX TM) , as enhanced potency humanized respiratory syncitial virus (RSV) monoclonal antibody for prophylaxis of serious RSV disease in high-risk children. Paediatric Home Care Programme of children with chronic disabilities, European Programme, code ΟΠΣ 375497, ESPA 2007-2013.
Professional Society Memberships: European Respiratory Society, Pediatrics Society of Northern Greece (Secretary 2002-20030), Hellenic Pediatric Respiratory Society (Treasurer 2009-2011 and from
2015 until now), Hellenic Respiratory Society.
He gives tutorials in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Students and Residents in Paediatrics and Postgraduate Physiotherapists. He received award of teaching excellence from the School of Health Sciences of the AUTH for the academic year 2014-15. Suprevisor/Co-supervisor in 8 PhD thesis and 3 MSc diploma projects. He wrote 7 chapters in Greek and International Medical books. He has 40 peer-reviewed publications of Journal Citation Reports (PubMed, Scopus) and 110 abstracts published in Journals of Journal Citation Reports. He has presented 105 lectures in International and Greek Paediatric/ Paediatric Pulmonology Congresses while participating in 36 International and 109 Greek Congresses.
Social Activities
General Secretary of non-profit Union with Social Work like organizing seminars and congresses for the public on medical and social topics and organizing summer camps for children and adolescents. Gave 15 lectures considering the vulnerable child, the child with chronic disease and chronic disability.
